What is SpamSlam?
SpamSlam is a convenient tool designed to eliminate, easily and automatically, all unwanted junk messages from every email account you own. Junk email has become such a problem that important messages are often lost in the deluge of unsolicited messages that clutter your mailbox. SpamSlam is your solution to the junk email problem.
What makes SpamSlam the best junk mail eliminator?
With the exception of SpamSlam, every anti-spam tool available for personal computers can be placed into one of three categories:
- Simple Rule-Based Filter
- Challenge/Response Filter
- Statistical Content-Based Filter
Each of these filter types is not without its significant disadvantages. SpamSlam is the best anti-spam tool because it combines the strengths of the two best filter types while subsequently eliminating their disadvantages.
SpamSlam v2 uses its brand new AccuFilter (an advanced Statistical Content-Based Filter) in combination with the Challenge/Response Filter seen in older versions of SpamSlam.
When you first start using SpamSlam, the Challenge/Response Filter is the primary mechanism by which spam is eliminated from your accounts. Messages from addresses on your whitelist are automatically released and those legitimate emails are added to SpamSlam's AccuFilter database. Likewise, as challenges are issued to junk emails, and those challenges die without response or are instead bounced, SpamSlam's AccuFilter is automatically training itself, building its database of junk email.
As a week or two passes, SpamSlam's AccuFilter has amassed a large pile of data and can now accurately classify messages as legitimate or as junk without issuing challenges. You'll see SpamSlam issuing far fewer challenges while at the same time effectively eliminating all junk email. Messages that are clearly junk are blocked. Messages that seem legitimate are released.
Whenever SpamSlam's AccuFilter encounters a message that seems neither like junk nor like legitimate email, a challenge is issued. If that challenge bounces, the message is blocked, and its contents are then used to make the AccuFilter even more accurate.
How is SpamSlam better than a conventional Challenge/Response?
SpamSlam doesn't issue challenges to messages that are clearly junk email, thereby greatly reducing the amount of bandwidth consumed by unnecessary challenge emails.
